The service requires no additional software or hardware - all incoming and outgoing emails to and from your network are diverted through our scanning nodes. Each email is rigorously checked as it passes through the system and will only be forwarded onto its destination if it passes all of the checks.

Reliability and speed
The scanning nodes are custom designed to handle very high volumes of email. Each node is made up of a number of clusters, with each cluster consisting of multiple high performance servers. Each cluster carries out a specific task (e.g. spam scanning).
This architecture allows for very fast scanning of emails and means that even if there is a server failure, or even an entire node becomes unavailable, the service will continue to operate without interruption.

Viruses, potential viruses and unwanted file attachments are all filtered using two completely separate virus scanning engines along with file scanning technology which can block files not just by file extension, but also if they contain suspect code. As well as this primary scanning, all emails also pass through a second scanning phase which uses different software to repeat the virus scanning phase - this ensures the most thorough scans possible.
Our spam scanning system significantly reduces unwanted spam emails and in many cases has been demonstrated to almost completely eliminate all spam. The system consists of multiple layers of filtering technologies, RBL lists and other techniques which we continually monitor, refine and improve.
No such service can ever be 100% guaranteed and we also advise customers to consider our service as part of an overall, multilayered security strategy. Experience with spam blocking effectiveness to date shows that for a typical small office receiving 80 spam emails a day, approximately 1 message per week may go undetected, virtually eliminating the problem.

Viruses - scanning is carried out by multiple different scanning engines which update their database files every 15 minutes. Messages containing a virus are immediately blocked and stored in quarantine (administrators may un-quarantine emails using the control panel).

Spam- Using its rule base, our spam scanning engine conducts a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify spam. Messages are assigned a "score" relating to the probability of spam and depending on this score messages can either be marked as spam and sent on to the recipient, deleted or filtered to a separate spam folder.

Unwanted attachments - emails with attachments are filtered and blocked according to customer defined rules.

Customers have access to an online control panel which allows them to customise spam and virus settings according to their requirements and release quarantined emails.
